Preparing your Quilt Top

This guide to to preparing your quilt top for domestic or long arm quilting was prepared by Cherie from Cherie’s quilt studio.

Sew quilt top with a stitch length of 2. This means reverse stitching isn’t required and your seams won’t come undone

Check all seams are sewn together including all applique pieces are sewn down

Stitch 3mm just inside the perimeter of your quilt to ensure seams don’t unravel and stops the top from stretching (this is called the victory lap)

Mark top of quilt and top of backing

Ensure batting and backing are at least 4 inches (10cm) wider on each side

Trim selvedges on backing seams
